
Seattle U Web Development Certificate
Seattle University’s Web Development Certificate consists of eight courses designed to transition students from a typical web user to an entry-level Frontend Web Developer.
Students in the Web Development Certificate program will earn up to 40 college credits while learning modern technology stacks comparable to the code bootcamps, but with the added benefit of financial aid and student support comparable to a 4-year university.
The Web Development courses are offered in either “hybrid“ or “online“ formats. Hybrid courses have regular face-to-face meetings where you can work with instructors and classmates in hands-on labs. Online courses use video chats and screenshare sessions to allow one-to-one work with your instructor.

This course explores the techniques used to present complex tools to the user including an exploration of client-side application frameworks, routing behaviors based on URL, event-based application design, and more.

In this introduction to the Internet and World Wide web, students will increase their understanding of how the Internet works, how the web works, how to be more savvy users of the web, and how to begin the journey from web consumer to web creator.

The code that executes in a user’s web browser can be a powerful feature of any website or application. This course introduces students to concepts of client-side programming for the web such as progressive enhancement of content, detecting and altering content to enhance cross-browser experiences, and more.

This course introduces students to common solutions for hosting websites and web-based applications. Students will learn about how a server works, experiment with local web servers, and engage with the world of web hosting services in order to understand how those systems work in the professional world.

This course introduces students to the basic principles of web Development beginning with an introduction to HTML and CSS. Students will learn how to create static pages and how to implement designs consistent with web standards and best practices.

This course addresses the common working methodology seen in web development shops. Students engage in project management skills such as planning, scoping, estimating work, and prioritization. Students practice working in an Agile workflow using common tools of the trade.

Practices such as usability testing, search engine optimization, and quality assurance are important to contemporary web development. This course will introduce students to the basic principles and techniques used to perform these duties.

The capstone project is made up of two components: Production and Analysis. The Production component consists of a significant, polished web-based project. The Analysis component consists of a written document that contextualizes the Production component’s significance in the landscape of web-based software.
